Colin Czerwinski

GG – Could you tell us a little about yourself? How did your work in art begin?

My name is Colin Czerwinski. I got started in photography about 15-20 years ago. I think it may have been my aunt that got me started on it. She used to have small digital cameras and I liked playing around with them. I think she had the first Sony Cybershot and that intrigued me a lot. But, I think my photography teacher in high school was the one that really propelled me forward in my pursuit of it. He gave me my first film camera; a Canon AE-1 which I still have, and use to this day.

GG – We would like to know what do you think about your photography, what meanings, messages you put?

I find my photography to be playful or humorous; a play on colour, juxtaposition and such. Allegorical content sometimes, but never on purpose. They just come out that way. I just follow what the light is showing me. That’s the most important part of my work. It could be anything with interesting light on it and I would probably take a photograph of it. Maybe not literally, but you get the gist.

GG – What’s your typical day ?

Wake up at 7am, breathing exercises, cold shower, make tea, write 3 pages of anything (stream of consciousness), morning walk or bike ride, check emails and etc, and then anything else is fair game.

GG – What could you imagine doing if you didn’t do what you do?

That’s a difficult question because it’s impossible to answer. But, probably homeless or miserable.
